Epidermis Definition...
I love the way this definition for what Epidermis represents in Botany...
a thin layer of cells forming the outer integument of seed plants and ferns...it sounds beautiful!
so intricate and multilayered...
EPIDERMIS
This is my last piece. It was meant to be completely different, I made circle after circle of detailed work, like a scientist in a laboratory...but just couldn't get myself to wrap the idea...
So, I ended up just focusing on one of my elements...one circle, one Cell...one organism...
I started to add some textile dimension to the piece, by stitching on it, crocheting and adding more layers to it...
I finished the piece by inserting it in a box frame and working on the actual frame to create a sense of depth and an illusion of movement...my two eternal obsessions...
I decided to call it...Epidermis...it reminds me of some of the "tissues" I used to observe under a microscope when I was studying dentistry, back in the day...they all had this pinkish shade and looked incredibly intricate and detailed...nothing particular sticks out except for that.
This is the first piece of a series so I will call it: Epidermis I...
So...here it is...

Cosmic Flora-Evolution
I did some changes to this piece. I worked with the idea of the circle and increasing the perception that we are looking into a new world or universe. Part of the piece is covered in fabric and it forces our eyes to tune into the center of the piece...The yellow fabric is also in starch contrast with the highly detailed interior of the pieces...where everything happens...
Cell Universe close ups
Cell Universe
I finished my latest piece! So excited! I called it: Cell Universe...
It's all made in paper. Layer after layer of paper, pencil drawings, tissue paper, and thread.
I want to use this piece as the sketch for a fabric piece.
I also thought after looking at it hanging on the wall that it would be really amazing if I could find magnifying glasses or resine circles in a bubble shape to put on top of each cell, implying or giving the impression that you are looking into something...i don't know if that is even possible...but I love the idea!...

The ever evolving process of Creation...
The piece is still mutating...circles within circles, layers within layers, depth versus relief, opacity versus transparency...in an all moving micro-macro-cosmos...
The final layout for the piece will be one grand circle. I will inscribe each "cell" from big to small into this circle...
The deadline is the 28th of February...and I really hope to make it!!!...
Stitch Spectacular
We went to check The Stitch Spectacular show and it gave us the perfect excuse to check another charming southern city...Savannah, Georgia...We truly enjoyed it...The show was very inspiring...it totally stimulated me to continue working on newer ever more challenging pieces. Seeing what other artists are doing across the USA also gave me a larger scope of the infinite possibilities of the textile medium. Savannah, like Charleston is another beautiful town. We loved its history and something about its people. Even though it was all too quick and couldn't really absorb it all...
But we will be back for sure!...Vivez le Sud!
Trip to Charleston, NC
I am a little behind on my postings...This one is about our trip to Charleston, NC in December, 2008. The city was lovely, full of charm and history. We really enjoyed walking up and down the streets, checking out old biuldings. The streets were full of old trees with its characteristic hanging moss, which gives the whole city an aura of nostalgia and melancholy...The fact that it is a harbour city adds to its charisma. Views of the water that surrounds it are everywhere, making the city feel open and airy. The old "rambla" along the ocean is very romantic and full of life, with children and people of all ages walking all along. We had a great time and hope to be back sometime soon. The weather was amazing! warm and delicious...We are definitely falling for the south!...there is a different rythm here...slower, more human...The trip overall was very inspiring and helped sediment some of the ideas I am incubating for my new piece...

La pureza de los ninos...
" Metodo, Metodo, que quieres de mi?
Bien sabes que he comido la fruta del inconsciente."
Esto lo sintetiza todo...
Paul Klee...
..."Klee deliberately embodied polar opposites in his oeuvre.
His style played between the organic and the geometric, the linear and the chromatic, the analytic and the spontaneous; his imagery encompassed representation and abstraction, the personal and the universal, the terrestrial and the cosmic, all within a profoundly harmonic whole"...
If I can ever achieve this sense of equilibrium, I will know then I have arrived...

Evolving Concept...
I am interested in the expression of something deeper than a pure aesthetic concern. I mean to express that which is intangible, that which we cannot touch or see, but only perceive or feel. It is holistic, it comes from an internal place. It involves responding to some higher, inner voice.
I have an almost compulsive necessity to crystallize in a material form the ephemeral within me.
In that sense I am extremely influenced by outsider art. Like them, I pursue the artistic expression of my inner self. Because this is an altogether internal, invisible world it tends to materialize in an almost surrealistic way. This inner representations are never static, like Life itself they are always in flux, in constant metamorphosis.
Another pivotal influence in my work is the Art of Frida Kahlo. Her imperative desire to represent the changes and transformations that were occuring within her physical and spiritual being are extremely inspiring to me.
In the end my work is always a result of my interest in Nature and Life itself, where everything seems connected into one multi layered, textural, infinitely complex organism.
I seek to represent "Qi"-that of which everything in the Universe is composed-
"Qi" is matter on the verge of becoming energy, or energy at the point of materializing.
As a concept, or a reality, "Qi" crosses without hindrance between the fields of philosophy, art, spirituality, natural science and medicine.
In this respect my work could almost be perceived as kitsch. Because, it is kitsch to attempt to repossess an experience of intensity and immediacy through a material, physical representation.

Its a new beginning...
This entry is to open a new chapter on a fresh page...
I am about to start a new piece, don't quite know how to start...
The concept is sort of like this:
Its a textile piece. Elements of the piece connect with one another creating illusions. Things are above and below. There are layers, there is depth and there is relief.
I want to look at images of cells and other organisms for inspiration. This piece will represent my own relations with the world, with Life and Creation...this is not a religious piece...it is though a highly spiritual and absolutely personal, intimate view of Life...
I want to use printing in this piece. I thought it could be digital printing...but that could put a restriction on the size of the piece...unless I piece it together?...
More images, sketches, ideas coming soon...
